Today I would like to share a detail on block 72 of the I Dropped the Button Box Crazy Quilt. If you click on the thumbnail you will be taken to information about the block itself.
The first is a little detail but a handy little seam treatment for crazy quilting. I have worked sets of 3 straight stitches arranged in an downward arrow formation using perle #8 thread. I then topped them with a sequin which was secured with a seed bead.
One detail everyone responds to on this block is the vine of wisteria/grapes. The grapes are worked in French knots using a silk thread. The vine stem and leaves are worked in hand dyed rayon thread. The leaves are detached chain stitch and the stems were worked in Whipped stem stitch.
This article is part of a regular series which illustrates the hand embroidered seams, embellishments and decorations on my crazy quilt I dropped the button box. If you want to read more articles like this look under Crazy Quilt details category
