It is time to introduce block 14, of the I dropped the button box quilt.
I must admit to enjoying the process of documenting this quilt. As I write, I remember just how much I enjoyed stitching it. I think it was the ‘all pieces different’ aspect that was a challenge. I did not want it to look a huge hodge podge of messy chaotic glitzy stuff! I really enjoyed the challenge of pulling it into control.
Needless to say since completing the diamond quilt I am thinking about the next big project. I have a few ideas floating around in my head and even more in my studio journals! That said some days I am very tempted to do a button box quilt 10 years on. Or perhaps a lace box quilt 10 years on. I need an excuse to use my lace collection. Just a thought at the moment but nevertheless I might drag out my laces and see what I have.
As to this next block to be documented as you can see there are 7 pieces of fabric in it.
Fabric content:
- Piece 1: Quilters cotton
- Piece 2: From an after 5 dress with a metallic thread woven through it.
- Piece 3: From an after 5 dress with a metallic thread woven through it.
- Piece 4: From a swatch book purchased from a soft furnishings store
- Piece 5: From a swatch book purchased from a soft furnishings store
- Piece 6: From a swatch book purchased from a soft furnishings store
- Piece 7: Quilters cotton
Item Count:
As I have explained before this quilt is a Y2K quilt which is made up of 2001 different elements. My definition of an element was either a different fabric, lace, braid, charm, buttons or ribbon. This count is an ongoing count of items and pieces in the quilt blocks documented so far.
- Fabric: 7
- Lace, braid and ribbon: 3
- Buttons: 8
- Charms: 2
- Total items on this block: 20
- Total tally on Quilt so far 277

In the process of documenting the seam decorations on this quilt, as I get to each block I am diagramming it out for readers as a free crazy quilt pattern. Links to these free pattern pages are listed on the CQ details FAQ page.

Hi Sharon, I like what you did with the buttonhole stitch. I did something like this on a final "exam" for one of my correspondence courses only I didn’t use the herringbone. I just made long stitches of varying sizes in circles and then did the buttonholing on those stitches in varying colours of pink and they looked like roses. They came out quite well and I will try to post it on my blog if you want to come have a look.
Wow!! this golden block is gorgeous.
Love the unicorn!
