TAST Week 21

TAST Week 21

The stitch for Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 21 is Oyster Stitch which looks difficult until you understand how it works. Once you understand the mechanics of it, this stitch is quick and easy to work. And it produces a nice textured chain stitch that you can use in many situations in place of chain stitch. But this one will give you a more interesting textured line. It will follow a curve well, which is great, as many textured stitches do not.

You can also use Oyster stitch in single units and apply it where you might use detached chain stitch. This means you can use it in daisy-like formations in floral sprays. As usual, check out the tutorial on Oyster stitch and gather together some ideas and then try it out. I think you will find it an interesting member of the chain stitch family and lots of fun  – enjoy it!

Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 21 Beyond TAST

For people doing the Beyond TAST challenge this week, I would like you to experiment with Buttonhole Picot. In my tutorial, I have two versions. The first, I made with a Bullion and the second with a chain stitch. I always find the second, an easier way to work. I would be interested to hear what you think.

If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learned. If you are an experienced embroiderer, enjoy Beyond TAST and give your work a modern twist. And of course, share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.

Where to Share

If you are doing the design challenge you have a month to work on your design and stitch it up.

So the idea is to stitch a sample, photograph it, share it in the Take a Stitch Tuesday facebook group, or use the hashtags #TASTembroidery and #PintangleTAST on Instagram.

If you need more information the challenge guidelines are on the TAST FAQ page.

I hope people enjoy this week’s TAST stitches.
