This section of the band sampler is free form. The main stitches are experiments with various form of chain stitch and knotted stitches. It is the last area of this sampler before we move on to the sampler stitched to the band.
Stitches:
This band illustrates experiments with chain stitch, double chain stitch, triple chain stitch, crested chain stitch, twisted chain stitch, threaded and laced chain stitch, French knot, bullion knot, detached chain stitch, Oyster stitch, Basque knot, Barred chain stitch, reverse chain, Palestrina stitch, and cable chain stitch
Thread:
DMC perle thread 3, 5, and 8. DMC floss. A hand dyed baby knitting wool, mercerised cotton, cotton (crochet thread), hand dyed wool which is about the same weight as Appletons, Danish cotton, and silk
Fabric:
This section of the sampler is a dress linen which is not quite an even weave, hand painted with procion cold water dyes.
Dyes:
Procion cold water dyes for the cotton, wool and silk threads
Disperse dyes (also known as transfer dyes) on the synthetic threads such as baby wool.
Size:
All samples are 15 cm (6 inches) wide and stitched together in one long band sampler.
