TAST Week 29

TAST Week 29

Cloud filling sample 1

Cloud Filling is the stitch for Take a Stitch Tuesday 2023 Week 29. Because this stitch covers areas quickly and easily, you mainly see this stitch being used as a filler stitch. If you are a new hand to embroidery, you will find that filler stitches are amazingly useful. They can cover areas of your design quickly. Further, they are so useful that once you discover them you start collecting them!

The grid that you lay down for Cloud Filling stitch is traditionally created as a simple straight stitch. Then you lace a thread through it (see the tutorial here). But you can, if you choose, create a grid of blocks of satin stitches, detached chain stitches, bullion knots, fly stitches, cross stitches, or even bugle beads.  You can also experiment with threads. Choose different threads or novelty yarns to create some very different effects with your fill and of course have fun!

Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 29 Beyond TAST

This week I would like to suggest you experiment with Threaded Cable Chain Stitch. So see the tutorial on how to hand embroider Threaded Cable chain for instructions on how to work it. This stitch is an ideal stitch for decorative borders, is quick to work and since it will follow a curve well, can be used in many situations.

Threaded Cable Chain step 6

If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learned. If you are an experienced embroiderer, enjoy Beyond TAST and give your work a modern twist. And of course, share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.

Where to Share

If you are doing the design challenge you have a month to work on your design and stitch it up.

So the idea is to stitch a sample, photograph it, share it in the Take a Stitch Tuesday facebook group, or use the hashtags #TASTembroidery and #PintangleTAST on Instagram.

If you need more information the challenge guidelines are on the TAST FAQ page.

I hope you enjoy Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 29! I look forward to seeing what people do with these stitches.
