All Dressed Up and Nowhere To Go

All Dressed Up and Nowhere To Go : Novelty Cards of People in Silk and Embroidery by Liselotte Erlanger Glozer is a brief article on silk cards produced in the l9th century.

Particularly of interest to those who are creating contemporary fabric postcards is a section half way down the page titled ‘Real Photo Cards With Embroidery And Cloth’ as there is an example of a photograph, which has been hand tinted and embroidered.

When I saw this I was immediately struck that there is nothing new under the sun. How many times have you seen or done the contemporary version of this? How many digital photographs have been transferred to fabric using one of the various methods available today and then embellished with embroidery or beading?
