TAST Week 40

TAST Week 40

For Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 40 we have a couching stitch variety called  Chained Bar stitch. It is a fun and easy-to-work stitch as it is simply zig-zag chain worked over some long stitches — check out the tutorial of ideas.

Technically, it is a form of couching. With any form of couching, you can have fun with novelty threads. Substitute the long foundation stitches with an interesting thread and you can immediately add personality to your work. You can also use a ribbon instead of thread too!

Interlaced Cable Chain step 10

Interlaced Cable Chain stitch looks complex, but really, it is simple and remarkably quick to do. You can lace with a thread of the same type or experiment with novelty yarn, fine ribbon, and fine braid. I stitched the sample above in cotton perle #5 thread.  As usual, I have a tutorial on how to work Interlaced Cable Chain Stitch in the stitch dictionary. I hope you enjoy experimenting with this stitch.

If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learned. If you are an experienced embroiderer, enjoy Beyond TAST and give your work a modern twist. And of course, share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.

Where to Share

So the idea is to stitch a sample, photograph it, share it in the Take a Stitch Tuesday facebook group, or use the hashtags #TASTembroidery and #PintangleTAST on Instagram.
