Crazy Quilt Block 90

Crazy quilt block 90 is a monotone block in shades of green that sits in the overall diagonal design of my I Dropped the Button Box quilt. It is made up of a mix of fabrics with polyester after five fabrics sitting along side silk brocades. So you can see that I am no fabric snob and will use anything to hand that fits.  There is 7 pieces of fabric on this 6 inch block so it is quite crowded but you can still see what is going on. (To see a larger photo click on the image of the block.)

As regular readers know my challenge when I made this quilt was to use 2001 unique pieces of fabric, lace, braids, charms, buttons or ribbons as it is a Y2K quilt. The on going item count list below represents the items documented to date in this series of articles.

Crazy Quilt Block 90 free Pattern

Once again I will include both pattern and details together in one post.

The Details on Crazy Quilt Block 90

This seam was first covered with a snippet of lace that I had dyed. I used procion dyes as this was a rayon lace. I then decorated the lace edges with motifs that are made up of detached chain stitch and French Knots.

The second detail is also lace. This is cotton that I put in the same dye bath. Along the edge I stitched down some commercial dark green satin ribbon that had been folded into little pockets. I then decorated the lace by embroidering French knots, detached chain stitch and straight stitches alongside seed beads. Two of the buttons in the button cluster are vintage.

The third detail is a seam of Alternating up and down buttonhole stitch that is worked in silk thread.

The last detail I would like share with you is the cluster of buttons 2 of which are vintage and 2 are plastic. I mix old and new together. I know some crazy quilters don’t do this but as I have said before I use what I have.

If you are new to this site the set of the I Dropped the Button Box Quilt consists of diagonal lines of colour.   My challenge was to have all the crazy quilt blocks reading properly as I was pulling everything on the quilt from my stash!
