Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 11 Basic TAST

Feather stitch sample

Feather stitch is the basic stitch for week 11. For those who are new to embroidery, you will find that aspects of the hand movements needed to make this stitch are similar to those learned in Buttonhole. I hope you can see a method to my madness in introducing these stitches in this way. Each builds a little on the skill you developed while learning the previous stitch. In fact, the first 15 or so weeks of Basic TAST is effectively an embroidery course suitable for beginners.

Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 11 Beyond TAST

The Beyond TAST challenge for week 5 is Feather and Chain stitch. As you can see, this stitch is a combination of Feather stitch and Chain stitch. This wonderful hybrid is fun, interesting, and easily adapted to different situations. In other words, Feather and Chain stitch is one of those stitches that you can improvise and riff on, creating variations upon variations.

If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learned. If you are an experienced embroiderer, enjoy Beyond TAST and give your work a modern twist. And of course, share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.

Where to Share

So the idea is to stitch a sample, photograph it, share it in the Take a Stitch Tuesday facebook group, or use the hashtags #TASTembroidery and #PintangleTAST on Instagram.
