TAST Week 23

TAST Week 23

For TAST week 23 I have a stitch that is new to TAST this week. It is Interlaced Band which is worked between two lines of Back stitch. This stitch is great for using novelty yarns and thicker threads.

Interlaced Band using two different threads

My main tip for this stitch and any stitch where you are lacing or threading a thread under a foundation stitch, is to use a blunt tapestry needle for the lacing part of the stitch. This is so you don’t accidentally split your foundation stitches. Make sure you lace and take care not to take your needle through the fabric and have fun with the stitch!

Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 23 Beyond TAST

This week I am suggesting that people play with and explore Reversed Buttonhole Bar. This stitch can be a lot of fun as it creates a textured braid-like line that you can use as a border or edging. You can increase the number of lines to produce an even more interesting stitch, particularly if you use a thread that has a firm twist — like cotton perle #5. Worked in a circle it is interesting too!

A tutorial for Reversed Buttonhole Bar is in my online Stitch Dictionary.  I hope you enjoy experimenting with Reversed Buttonhole Bar stitch. Once you get the rhythm working, you can be very creative with it.

Next Week is TAST Break Week 2

Yes, next week is our second break week for the year. This gives you a chance to catch up if life has been getting in the way, or if you would just like some time away to finish another project or just relax for a week 🙂

If you are new to hand embroidery the challenge is to learn the stitch and share what you have learned. If you are an experienced embroiderer, enjoy Beyond TAST and give your work a modern twist. And of course, share it online so beginners can see what can be done with a little imagination.

If you are looking for past TAST stitch challenges the archives are in the Take a Stitch Tuesday category

Where to Share

So the idea is to stitch a sample, photograph it, share it in the Take a Stitch Tuesday facebook group, or use the hashtags #TASTembroidery and #PintangleTAST on Instagram.

If you need more information the challenge guidelines are on the TAST FAQ page.

I hope you enjoy Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 23 as both are fun stitches and worth experimenting with.
